Thanks to everyone who has used this blog over the past season. From now onwards all Last Line information is going to be hosted on the brand new Last Line Website.

This will include information about the school, our coaching sessions, successes and how to contact us. We will also have a separate part of the site for Last Line Fantasy Football League for those who are involved in this football fun.

Hamish wins plate whilst FC Minibinnie stuns Ref's Rovers...

The first trophy of the Last Line Fantasy Football season was won at the weekend. In an extremely close encounter, HM11’s won the Plate Final - defeating Liam’s Goal Gods by a single point. Well done Hamish.

In the Head to Head league Wee162 received a boost when Michael’s FC MiniBinnie won a tense fixture with his dad. This gives his mum Jill Binnie a 3 point advantage over John going into the final five games. Michael (and brother Chris) were able to enjoy the weekend with an unusually subdued father. Refs Rovers wins 4th MOM

The March MotM award was won by Refs Rovers making this the 4^th time John Binnie has won the award. It is also another month in which he has increased his leading gap at the top of the main league. With only two months to go, and Jillian playing Stevie Harrold in the Cup Final later this month and with both John and Jillian topping the Head to Head league, it is looking increasingly likely that prizes could be heading to the Binnie household.

Can anyone stop them?

This week we have the final of the Plate competition. Thankfully a Binnie will not win this one... HM11’s will play Liam’s Goal Gods in the competition for the teams knocked out of the Cup competition in the First Round. This looks likely to be a close contest.

Results from Head to Head Week 21

The results from last week saw both leaders, Refs Rovers and Wee162, at the top of the league winning and maintaining a 6 point gap. With such a big gap and only 8 gameweeks to go, it will be very difficult for both to be overcome by their nearest rival, HMs11. It should be a high scoring week this week as there are 15 Premiership games counting towards the scores. The highlight of the fixtures is clearly the Lastline cup as we are now down to the semi final stage. Jillian's, Wee162 will play Gordon's, Inch Utd. The other semi final son David taking on his dad Steven in the all Harrold semi when Harroldston United play AFC Bunter.

Cup Fever Hits the Fantasy League

On Friday night Michael made the semi final draw for the LLGS Fantasy Football cup. The draw will see his Mum take on Gordon Adams in one tie and a Harrold father and son contest in the other semi. These ties will be played on the 20/21st of March. The highlights of the results from the weekend had HM's11 and Liams Goal Gods winning there ties to qualify for the Plate final, which will be played on the 2/3rd of April. The February manager of the month was won by John's, Refs Rovers. This is the third time he has won this award, it is becoming a bit boring and his sons say he is clearly unbearable to live with. Can someone please put Christopher and Michael out of their misery.

Hibees Guaranteed to win the Cup

With the Lastline cup completing the quarter final matches this week, it became obvious that Hibs, or at least a Hibs fan, will win the cup this year. With the managers of all 4 teams qualifying for the semis supporting the Hibees, we will at last see green and white favors adorning the cup. There is also the possibility of a father and son cup final, with dad (Stevie) AFC Bunter and son (David) Harroldson United still in the competition.

Saving a Penalty in top 10 hardest of all sporting feats

Picture the scene, your job is to stop a ball 9 inches in diameter travelling up to 60mph hitting a goal that is 192 square feet...oh, and you have to do it in under 0.26 seconds.

Studies have been conducted to show this is the level of difficulty top goalkeepers face in penalty situations. No wonder USA Today's coverage of the Top 10 most difficult sporting feats included 'saving a penalty' at number 9.

So how to you actually save a penalty?

Ask 10 keepers that question and you may get 10 different answers. So rather than giving a definitive answer (as there really isn't any), here are some pointers to consider -

• Younger players strike the ball with less pace and less accuracy. Therefore a younger keeper may benefit by waiting until the ball has been struck and reacting to the ball's flight
• Spotting common patterns in the penalty taker's run up may give clues as to the side he is aiming for
• Many professional keepers track the penalty taker's history, identifying patterns to use to their advantage (Ben Foster had these recorded onto his iPod during the 08/09 season)

It's important to note, having luck on your side goes a long way, as demonstrated in the video below. Goalkeeper gives away a penalty & receives a red card, only for his outfield team mate to save it!!
